This is part of the wall of Agra Fort, very similar to the Red Fort in Delhi.
Note the monkeys walking along the wall, and the partially dried up river bed
in the background.
This highly impressive building is, in fact, only the gate-house to the
Taj Mahal, the highlight of any tour to Agra.
One of the most famous sites in the world - the Taj Mahal needs little
introduction. It is, however, a great shame that one of the most romantic
and beautiful buildings in the world should be located in a city as filthy
as Agra.
This scene took place on the bus drive from Agra back to Delhi. Indians are
generally very laid back people, until it comes to Level Crossings. Suddenly,
everyone has to be as close to the barrier as possible, on both sides of the
road. Pedestrians and cyclists just duck under the barrier and walk across
the tracks oblivious to the large, fast express trains which appear with
considerable regularity. When the trains stop and the barriers go up, it can
take up to 15 minutes to clear the mess - being stuck in a bus straddled across
an express railway line for 5 minutes is not exactly my idea of a good time!
