I stayed with friends in Auckland for a week on my way back across the Pacific Ocean. This is part of the skyline of Auckland which is sandwiched between the Pacific Ocean to the East and the Tasman Sea to the West.
We took the ferry to Waiheke Island for a Jazz Festival featuring a number of top jazz musicians from New Orleans. It was a very hot, sunny day.
This is the famous Silver Fern featured on the New Zealand Rugby All Blacks' shirts.
I visited Rotorua on a day trip. The weather had changed every day - this particular day it was pouring with rain - I felt quite at home! This is one of the pools of bubbling hot mud - there is an all-pervading smell of sulphur in the air.
We didn't actually get to see a large Geyser go off, but this one was churning out large amounts of steam all the time, the effect helped by the very damp weather.
Also at Rotorua is a Maori tourist centre including workshops and this re-production of a Maori Meeting House.
