January 2002 The reason for taking a diversion to Ranthambhore National Park! We saw this female tiger on the morning safari of the second day - it was the first sighting in five days. There are only about 25 tigers in the 400sq km area. The late afternoon setting sun over one of the larger lakes in the park. In October, this is the perfect time to spot tigers stalking animals which have come here to drink fresh water. The Canter truck which took us on our safari trips; one in the morning, one in the afternoon, each about three hours long. The trucks pick up from the various hotels scattered along the road approaching the park, everything from budget places to five-star resorts. A camel train wandering along the road outside our hotel. The Tiger Safari Resort hotel - home for a couple of days. The rooms were fine but the food wasn't much to write home about, so evening meals were taken at the hotel next door. The hotel sign is worth a closer look - a fine example of all that is best in English spelling in India.
